Day 10, Tuesday March 8 2011
Today is Fat Tuesday, the day of indulgence and I actually am not giving anything up but continuing to live on this path of living each day as a tourist. But today I did briefly splurge. I slept in until 600 am due to the coaxing of my fiancĂ©, generally get up at 500 am. During my 1 ½ hour lunch break for the conference I am attending, I sat in a full on massage chair for fifteen minutes, went into a clothing store I had been avoiding, and bought some chocolate, and purple nail polish. One tip about me is I try to minimize and so I have yet to buy new nail polish in the past year. I also ate at a quick sushi place that I secretly enjoy but never visit. My chef fiancĂ© is extremely picky and our choices to dine are slim, this is not one of them. But it’s my day to indulge so spicy ahi bowl and dragon roll just for me yum. Today I splurged, no really financially (in total it was $10 for everything today( but it was splurging for me, with treating myself to a massage, special food, treats, and time. Somewhat ironically, I started therapy as a patient yesterday. The things my psychologist brought up as what I need to focus on is self care and treating myself . I give and don’t replenish. Homework is to replenish and give, and that is what I did today.
As a tourist, sometimes the trip itself is the splurge. Some people may overindulge in gifts and experiences. Others may fully thwart indulgences because of the mere cost of the trip. But pick a healthy balance. And one day, just receive. Take in in all as a gift.
