To Plan and Not to Plan

Day 6 To Plan and Not to Plan

As a tourist, generally at least some part of your trip includes an itinerary (if not all).

So earlier this week I decided to take and initiative and be the planner for a work event.  A previous co-worker who had moved away was in town, why not have a party?  So I coordinated the emails, the location, and re-location throughout the week.  It’s funny that with friends and family , I used to be known as the itinerary queen, but with work functions, I do not usually jump at the chance at planning.  I follow suit.  With planning something for a dozen plus co-workers, the minute stresses piled up.   Where to dine?  Will everyone approve?  After restaurants were booked, one after the other, choosing another location.    The event is today.  The fruits of my labor will be realized.

It is also important to allow for days that are not planned.   Tomorrow is my fiance’s mother’s one year death anniversary.  Part of me wants to help him plan it out, but in reality, I know this is his choice.  Maybe we visit a church, the ocean, or do nothing.  It is his day of grievance and memorial, and I will follow suit.

If you travel with somebody, take the time to create the itinerary one day.  Maybe you are already a take charge person.  Or maybe you simply follow along with the plans.  Research the town you are in, and pick sites to see, paths to walk on, and the restaurant.  Although there may be stressors in this, there is beauty as the itinerary unfolds.  Then switch, be a follower one day.
